MONDAY MACROS: Large White and Green-veined White Butterflies.
My Monday Macro series continues with a couple of shots of white butterflies taken yesterday in the garden.
I think there is a Zen-like quality to time spent watching these elegant creatures flitting from flower to flower in search of nectar.
(The phrase “ZEN and the ART of MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY” has been in my mind for a while now. I’m planning a series of posts around it, once MONDAY is MACRO DAY has run for its planned ten weeks).

Both are beautiful Helen, I keep gong back and forth between the two, but I believe i like the top shot better with the white background. it really make the flower pop, but the butterfly shows up well against it as well. I need to go out and try to get some butterfly shots, however like you said above there have not been a huge amount of them here in Virginia (Eastern US) that I have seen this year.

Thanks Mitch. We’re a bit low on butterflies too so far this year. The first one is my favourite also. Didn’t know how it would work shooting into the light – but RAW makes most things possible.

Beautiful! Butterflies seem to be n quite short supply at the moment, the occasional Painted Lady is practically all I’ve seen for a month now. Even though the days are warm (ish) it is winter down here. But I managed to photograph a female African Migrant a couple of days ago.

We’ve not seen as many butterflies as I would have hoped for this year.
