An English Country Pub
We have a lot of nice country pubs nearby. In fact I think we might visit some or all of them for lunches during autumn – all for the purposes of blogging about the experience of course! (I feel a 10-part series on “LOCAL PUBS” might be in the offing!)
The Plough at Eaves, in the hamlet of Eaves near the village of Woodplumpton, is one of the oldest. It dates back to 1625. I’ve not found out much about it yet, so that’s another good reason for a visit.
I have just read that it has a long and interesting history and was used as a refuge by both sides during the Battle of Preston in 1648. That must have been interesting, especially if the opposing sides (Cromwell’s Roundheads versus the Scots) were there at the same time.
So now I need to Google “Battle of Preston”.
But before I get sidetracked, this picture of the pub is my post for Cee’s Black & White Challenge: SHADOWS

Thanks Paul. I’m Scottish, but I have to admit that you can’t beat a good English country pub. Off to Barcelona tomorrow then back for the hard work of lunching in pubs !

Oh, I wish I could go with you! Yes, yes, do a series of posts about pubs, and I can at least visit vicariously.

You can join us for a vicarious lunch then

Helen, I love your posts! There is alway something great or small to learn in each one of them! It is simply amazing to me, at the length of time some of these places have been in constant operation, just think the pub above has been in operation now for 392 years! Truly Amazing! What these walls could tell us if they could talk! Unfortunately for you, they cannot, so it will take leg and computer work. 🙂
As always Helen, I just love the black and white photography with the brilliant red phone box! I am always in awe of your photography and posts!!

Thank you so much, Mitch. I’ve not been blogging as much recently as I felt I’d run out of ideas. But your comment has spurred me on to get back into it.
Off to Barcelona on Sunday for a few days so will, no doubt, come back with a few new pictures

Thank you Helen, it seems that we both were in the same boat with feeling like we had run out of ideas.
Looking forward to seeing Barcelona through your eyes,
Wishing you Safe Travels on your Holiday! 🙂
