Peck, peck, peck…….
…………..these hens made quite a noise, pecking in unison and with great determination and persistence on the cottage window.
I was very fortunate a few months ago to spend a week on retreat on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Just around the corner from my accomodation was a cottage where I heard, then saw, these hens on a bench in the front garden.
Their pecks were answered when the owner of the cottage came out and fed them. I gather they do this several times every day when they’re feeling “peckish”.

Holy Island is more famous for its castle than it is for its hungry hens. Here’s Lindisfarne Castle from the perspective of one who was just about to follow the winding path up to it, around it and then beyond it onto the beach:

oh love these photographs. Holy Island is somewhere I’d love to go.

And once you do go to Holy Island, you’ll be even keener to return. I should have been there again in March, but it was cancelled due to Coved-19. Best to go on either side of the tourist season when you more or less have the place to yourself.
